DC DESIGN HOUSE 2013
You can’t know where you are going until you know where you have been. This teenage boy’s bedroom offers a space of his own, where independence and personality is balanced with history and tradition.
The design is sophisticated, with nods to men’s suiting fabrics and historical artifacts, with touches of individualism and youthful whimsy through modern art and accessories. Don’t miss the inspiration for the space, a vintage locker from a New York City public school that has been transformed into a hip and unique storage solution for “stuff”.
What’s old is new in this room, including the over-dyed Turkish Oushak rug, the pair of French Industrial tables from the 1930’s, and the up-cycled antique steamer trunk. A hand carved rocking chair offers a comfortable and cozy retreat to love for generations. A hand painted desk adds personality to an otherwise utilitarian piece. New and vintage memorabilia are this boy’s individual touch to create his own private refuge.
